Brian Andrew Tully, JD, CELA, Founder, The Elder Law Office of Tully Law, P.C. will co-host a program on how to detect and prevent elder financial abuse. An Elder Financial Abuse Seminar will take place on April 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Oyster Bay Manor Assisted Living, 150 South Street in Oyster Bay.

Mr. Tully will be joined by Jennifer Benjamin, MBA, Geriatric Care Manager, Family First Home Companions, and Lewis Knopf, CSA, Daily Money Manager, LK Daily Money Management. Those in attendance will learn what constitutes elder financial abuse, how to reduce the risk and what to do if you suspect it. Those who attend will receive a Continuing Education credit.

The topic of elder financial abuse has reached greater prominence recently when actor Mickey Rooney testified before Congress on how he had to get a restraining order against his stepchildren, who he says intimidated him in order to access his money. According to the MetLife Mature Market Institute, almost $3 billion a year is being lost to elder financial abuse. It is the No. 1 crime against persons age 65 and older and, for every known case of elder financial abuse, another four to five cases go undetected.

The Elder Law Office of Tully & Winkelman, P.C. concentrates in elder law, special needs and estate planning, Life Care Planning, Medicaid asset protection, Medicaid applications and estate and trust administration and offers counsel and education to help families make the wisest decisions as they plan for a special-needs family member or navigate through the elder care continuum.

Dinner will be served during the event. Space is limited and reservations are requested. Please RSVP by April 11. To make a reservation, please call Stephanie at (516) 624-8400.
