Effective November 5, 2014, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has issued a new chart to help people to decide whether or not to delay the receipt of their Social Security benefits beyond retirement age. This chart found in sections D and E of the announcement details the amount of credit earned for each year delayed based on the person date of birth. As the retirement age is changing from 65 to 67, the advantage to delaying receipt of benefits varies depending on date of birth. SSA advises that the chart should be used to help make a determination on the most advantageous month to begin receiving benefits and should be used only as estimation.
