REAP (Residential Energy Affordability Partnership) is a LIPA program for income-eligible customers designed to help them save energy and lower their electric bills. You are eligible for REAP if you have a LIPA account number, your house is a one to four family dwelling, and you meet the income guidelines provided by LIPA.

Michelle Bontempi, the Community Outreach Specialist for the REAP program, kindly provided us with some information regarding their services:

LIPA customers who participate receive a home energy assessment including health and safety testing, energy education, and the installation of cost-saving measures to lower electricity bills including high efficiency Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) and, if eligible, a free ENERGY STAR refrigerator! Participation in REAP can make homes healthier and safer and participants are guided to other non-LIPA services that can help with any special needs.

The programs website (http://lipower.org/residential/custserv/fa-reap.html) contains more information including the 2013-2014 income eligibility guidelines. You can also view an informational brochure here: REAP Brochure
